I’ve driven the truck. I’ve chained the tires in the snow. I’ve cranked a landing gear by hand and checked a strap at two in the morning because the regulations say somebody has to.

So when the industry says autonomous trucks are ready, I read the actual record before I take a position.

What I found: the physical work hasn’t gone away, it’s just moved off the truck and onto a loading dock where nobody’s watching. The safety mileage isn’t close to proven. The economics are still losing money for the companies chasing them. And the federal government has been asked the central question three times since 2017 without giving a straight answer.
